New AI data center in Utah will generate and consume more than twice the amount of power the entire state uses — Kevin O'Leary's 9 Gigawatt Utah data center campus approved

Utah’s Military Installation Development Authority approved a development deal for the Stratos AI data center campus in Box Elder County.

Backed by Kevin O’Leary, the project plans to build its own power supply, starting around 3 GW and scaling up to 9 GW.

Rather than relying on the public grid, Stratos would use private land and natural gas generation tied to the Ruby Pipeline.

If completed, it could rank among the largest AI data center campuses in the U.S. and significantly affect local taxes, jobs, and power demand.
