Amazon has filed with the FCC for a direct-to-device (D2D) satellite system under Amazon Leo.

The plan calls for up to 5,105 low-Earth-orbit satellites, with deployment starting in 2028.

The service aims to connect smartphones and other devices directly to satellites for voice, messaging, data, and emergency calling in dead zones.

If approved and built out, it could expand options for disaster response and remote-area connectivity.
