CERN's most delicate road trip: Scientists take antimatter out of the lab for the first time

CERN scientists completed the first road transport test of antimatter, moving about 100 antiprotons by truck in a specially built magnetic trap.

The four-hour proof-of-principle showed the particles could stay contained during travel, though the trap still has limited autonomy for a longer trip.

The test is an important step toward moving antimatter to quieter, specialized labs for more precise experiments.

It could help answer why the universe contains matter instead of antimatter and advance trapping and cryogenic vacuum technology.
