US tests hypersonic missile capable of reaching Mach 5+ speeds in joint Army-Navy launch

The U.S. conducted a successful launch of a common hypersonic missile from Cape Canaveral on March 26, 2026.

The missile is designed to travel faster than Mach 5 and can exceed about 3,836 mph.

The Army and Navy ran the joint test to develop a shared land- and sea-based strike capability and speed deployment while reducing costs.

The Pentagon lists hypersonics among six Critical Technology Areas for rapid fielding of advanced combat technologies.
