Germany and Japan bet on BMW and Toyota to make hydrogen cars mainstream

BMW and Toyota are jointly developing third-generation hydrogen fuel-cell technology, with BMW targeting a 2028 hydrogen model.

Toyota is also updating its FCEV lineup as both companies push beyond niche hydrogen projects toward series production.

Germany and Japan are strengthening hydrogen policy, transport pilots, and refueling infrastructure to support wider adoption.

The collaboration could help build supply chains and fueling networks for hydrogen vehicles alongside batteries and fossil fuels.
