NASA Shuts Down Voyager 1 Instrument as Its Life Force Fades

NASA shut down Voyager 1’s Low-energy Charge Particles (LECP) instrument to conserve dwindling power.

The move followed a February power drop that could have triggered an automatic shutdown of other systems.

By saving energy now, NASA hopes to keep Voyager 1 returning data from interstellar space for about another year.

The agency plans to test a similar power-saving upgrade on Voyager 2 first.
