Manufacturing qubits that can move

Delft University of Technology and QuTech built a linear quantum-dot chip that can move electron-spin qubits between sites.

The team brought qubits together for two-qubit gates, moved them apart again, and confirmed they remained entangled.

They also demonstrated quantum teleportation on the chip, showing the moving qubits can still support advanced operations.

The result suggests quantum-dot hardware may be more flexible than expected, with hardware changes and error-correction strategies possible after fabrication.
