Scientists Just Confirmed What’s Driving Sea Level Rise, and It’s Alarming

A Science Advances study finds global sea level has risen faster since 1960, driven mainly by warming oceans.

Glacier melt and losses from the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets account for most of the rest of the rise.

Researchers also corrected earlier measurement and estimation gaps, explaining nearly all of the observed increase.

The findings strengthen confidence in sea level projections and confirm a long-term climate risk that will persist for centuries.
