NASA debuts radiation-hardened chip with 500x more power than current space processors

NASA and Microchip Technology have developed a new radiation-hardened system-on-chip and are now testing it at JPL.

The processor delivers nearly 500 times the performance of current space-grade chips while surviving radiation, launch stress, and extreme temperatures.

Built for NASA's High Performance Spaceflight Computing program, it could enable onboard AI and more autonomous spacecraft operations.

If successful, the chip could support more capable lunar, Martian, and deep-space missions with less dependence on Earth.
