Dark modes no longer block quantum effects as scientists switch them on demand

RIKEN researchers showed that hidden dark quantum modes can be temporarily activated on demand.

By using engineered quantum inputs, they restored blocked topological behavior and mode conversion in non-Hermitian systems.

The study involved dark modes, phonons, and photons, with work led by the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Franco Nori.

This approach could help future quantum devices guide, store, and transfer signals more reliably.
