Android rolls out local ‘Documents’ backup that syncs to Google Drive

Google is rolling out an Android “Documents” backup feature that automatically uploads locally saved downloads and documents to Google Drive.

Backed-up files are stored in an “Android backups” folder in My Drive and can include files from multiple devices.

The backup runs automatically on a nightly schedule and counts against Google account storage.

Google says the files are encrypted in transit, and turning the feature off does not delete the existing backup in Drive.
