Despite Magic's unprecedented success, Wizards of the Coast's president is already stepping down

Wizards of the Coast president John Hight will step down on Sept. 1 and shift into an advisory role while the company looks for a successor.

The leadership change comes after a strong year for Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons, both of which helped drive record growth.

The move also raises fresh questions about Wizards’ video game strategy, following cancellation-related charges and scrutiny over its digital portfolio.

Hasbro said the transition is not expected to disrupt ongoing plans, including upcoming appearances and product efforts tied to Gen Con 2026.
