Scientists Develop a Groundbreaking Chip That Operates at Brain-Like Speed

Researchers at Peking University built a phase-change memristor chip that performs neural dynamical system calculations in under 10 milliseconds.

The in-memory design reduces data movement, delivering major speed and energy gains over specialized ASICs and an NVIDIA A100 GPU.

Tests showed the chip can accurately reconstruct cortical surfaces while using far less power.

The advance could help make real-time brain modeling practical for brain-computer interfaces, surgery, medical imaging, and neuroscience research.
