NASA Is Testing Its Own Cutting-Edge AI Chip For Future Space Missions

NASA and Microchip have finished initial environmental tests at JPL on a new space computing chip.

The High Performance Spaceflight Computing processor is designed for stronger radiation resistance, better performance, AI workloads, and lower power use.

If successful, it could help lunar, Martian, and deep-space missions process data and make decisions onboard instead of waiting for Earth.

That autonomy would be valuable in harsh radiation environments where communication delays and power limits are major constraints.
