U.S. Navy in Japan’s official X account hacked; profile restored but handle still not recovered

The U.S. Navy’s Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CNFJ) said its official X account was taken over by a third party.

The command restored the profile image and bio, but had not recovered the original username as of 7 p.m. on the 27th.

It said administrators were posting from the account and no unauthorized posts had been confirmed.

The incident underscores the security risks of account takeovers even for major military organizations.
