Micron Doubles Down on AI Memory With 256 GB DDR5 RDIMMs Hitting 9200 MT/s, a 40% Leap Over Today’s Modules

Micron has started sampling 256 GB DDR5 registered DIMMs for servers, aimed at AI and data center workloads.

Built on 1-gamma DRAM, the modules can reach up to 9200 MT/s, over 40% faster than current mass-market DDR5 parts.

The design uses 3D stacking and TSV packaging to boost capacity and efficiency while reducing power use.

Higher bandwidth and density should help data centers run larger LLM and agentic AI workloads more efficiently.
