Scientists Found a Black Hole That Breaks the Rules of Astrophysics

JWST observations of Abell 2744-QSO1, a gravitationally lensed Little Red Dot from about 700 million years after the Big Bang, reveal an extremely massive black hole.

The black hole is estimated at around 50 million solar masses and may have formed or grown before the surrounding galaxy fully assembled.

NIRCam and NIRSpec data, reported in two new papers in Nature and MNRAS, point to an unusual early-universe object.

The finding challenges standard ideas about how supermassive black holes and galaxies grow together in the young cosmos.
