Nvidia Vera CPU impresses in early Nvidia-sanctioned benchmarks

Nvidia’s pre-production Vera datacenter CPU posted strong early benchmark results in Phoronix tests, beating Grace and several Intel Xeon and AMD Epyc chips in some synthetic and compression workloads.

The standout numbers came from a narrow set of benchmarks, including 7-Zip and other synthetic tests, so the results are promising but not a full picture of real-world performance.

Power consumption data was not available, and broader testing will have to wait until Vera’s launch later this year.

If the performance holds up, Vera could help Nvidia move beyond GPUs and AI infrastructure into the mainstream server CPU market.
