Researchers unveil NAND-DRAM hybrid that could outperform traditional memory

TL;DR AI
2 min readKey summary
Imec researchers in Belgium unveiled a proof-of-concept 3D CCD-based memory for AI that aims to combine DRAM-like speed with NAND-like density.
The design uses IGZO and stacked layers, and lab tests showed very high transfer rates.
If it can be scaled, the architecture could offer a cheaper, denser alternative for AI memory and ease pressure on DRAM and HBM supply.
For now, it remains a long way from commercial deployment.
