The 70-Person AI Image Startup Taking on Silicon Valley's Giants

Black Forest Labs, a 70-person German startup, has become a major supplier of AI image-generation models to companies like Adobe, Canva, Meta, Microsoft, and xAI.

The company recently raised funds at a $3.25 billion valuation after strong traction and top rankings on third-party image-model benchmarks.

It later chose not to renew a licensing deal with xAI, even as its models remain widely used across the industry.

Black Forest Labs now wants to move beyond text-to-image systems and into physical AI applications such as robots and smart glasses.
