2 billion kWh of electricity: Russia’s most powerful nuclear reactor passes key milestone

Russia’s first commercial VVER-TOI unit at Kursk II has passed 2 billion kWh of output after grid connection.

The 1,250 MW reactor entered commercial operation on May 1 and is now Russia’s most powerful operating nuclear unit.

The milestone signals stable service for Rosatom’s next-generation reactor design and progress toward replacing older plants with higher-capacity units.

Additional reactors at Kursk II remain under construction as the site expands its role in the national power system.
