Google Street View and Google's interactive world-building tool "Project Genie" team up to generate realistic worlds based on real-world images

Google unveiled a new Project Genie feature at I/O 2026 that turns real locations from Google Maps/Street View into interactive AI-generated worlds.

Users can now ground worlds in real-world imagery and optionally add styles and characters for customized simulations.

The feature is expanding beyond the initial U.S. adult-only rollout to more Google AI Ultra users.

Google said location coverage will grow over time, tying its mapping data more closely to its generative world model.
