If your router or drone maker is banned in the US, it will get an update lifeline until 2029

The FCC extended a waiver letting certain previously authorized foreign-made routers, drones, and drone parts keep receiving software and firmware updates through Jan. 1, 2029.

Officials said cutting off updates could leave already deployed devices vulnerable to cybersecurity and compatibility problems.

The waiver is expanded, but the underlying bans on Covered List equipment remain in place.

The move aims to balance national security concerns with the need to keep existing devices secure and usable.
