DDR6 development begins as Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron target 2028-2029 launch

Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron have begun early DDR6 development, including design coordination, substrate work, and prototype verification.

The JEDEC standard is still being finalized, but the first DDR6 products are expected to launch in servers around 2028-2029.

Consumer adoption will likely come later, and early DDR6 pricing is expected to be high.

Ongoing memory shortages and strong AI demand could slow the transition and keep costs elevated.
