China neighbor to introduce kamikaze drones, low-cost missiles with 620-mile range

Japan plans to field large numbers of loitering kamikaze drones and low-cost missiles to counter regional threats.

Reported weapons would have about 621-mile (1,000 km) range, placing Shanghai and Taiwan within reach of Japan.

The strategy centers on integrated attacks using drone swarms, submarine- and surface-launched drones, and follow-up missile strikes.

Japan also aims to equip ships with cruise missiles up to about 1,600 km to expand naval strike range.
