Google gets an ‘intelligent’ Search box redesign, information agents, mini apps, and more

Google announced a major AI-first redesign for Search at I/O 2026, led by a global upgrade to AI Mode.

Search now features an expanding AI-powered box with suggestions, shortcuts, and smoother handoff from AI Overviews into AI Mode.

New agentic tools can monitor information in the background, generate real-time UI for coding and visuals, and help users take action.

Subscribers will also get customizable dashboards and mini apps, pushing Search closer to a task-oriented assistant.
