Google excludes Android developer verification in sanctioned countries… overseas app distribution is restricted

Google is rolling out Android developer verification to reduce malware and scam app distribution.

Devices in U.S.-sanctioned countries will be exempt from the check, but developers in those countries cannot take part in verification.

That means developers in places like Iran, Cuba, and North Korea will face major limits on distributing apps outside sanctioned regions.

The policy will apply to most Android devices with Google services, starting in select countries before expanding worldwide in 2027.
