XREAL’s Android XR glasses one-up Apple’s wired battery with a controller, more [Video]

XREAL introduced Project Aura at Google I/O 2026, an Android XR glasses concept that keeps the headset compact by moving battery, chipset, and controls into a wired puck.

The puck doubles as a touch controller and supports external devices over USB-C DisplayPort, while the glasses add cameras, buttons, and electrochromic dimming.

XREAL says Project Aura should arrive before the end of 2026, with early access first going to selected Android developers.

The design highlights a different Android XR strategy that could make AR glasses smaller and more practical for Google’s ecosystem.
