"Claude Opus 5" debuts, delivering comparable performance to Claude Fable 5 at half the price with looser restrictions

Anthropic launched Claude Opus 5 on July 25, 2026, Japan time.

The company says it matches Claude Fable 5 performance at half the price, and third-party benchmarks put it ahead of Fable 5 in several tests.

Claude Opus 5 is now available to paid users and Max plan subscribers, while API pricing remains unchanged from Opus 4.8.

The new model aims to deliver frontier-level AI capability at a lower cost, with somewhat looser safety guardrails than Anthropic’s most advanced model.
