Denmark pauses new data center grid connections as total requests hit 60 GW — latest Nordic nation to put the brakes on AI buildouts

Denmark’s Energinet has paused new large-scale grid connections for three months after receiving about 60 GW of requests.

Around 14 GW of those requests came from data centers, highlighting a surge in power demand tied to AI and digital infrastructure.

The agency will review capacity limits and connection-prioritization rules before reopening applications.

The move reflects broader strain on power grids as countries like Ireland and the Netherlands also tighten data center expansion.
