Intel Foundry’s Rio Rancho Facility To Become Its Crown Jewel In Production of Next-Gen Glass Substrates

Intel Foundry is preparing its Rio Rancho, New Mexico fab to become its first high-volume site for glass substrates and silicon photonics for outside customers.

The company says glass substrates can help reduce warpage, improve density, and overcome interconnect limits in advanced semiconductor packaging.

Intel currently plans to keep its Chandler site as a pilot line while Rio Rancho moves toward commercialization over the next few years.

Forbes reports Intel is also in discussions or working with major potential customers including AWS, Cisco, Apple, Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Tesla.
