Elon Musk’s SpaceX rocket set for 5,400 mph crash on moon’s Einstein crater: Report

Astronomer Bill Gray, using Project Pluto orbit analysis, says a SpaceX Falcon 9 upper stage is likely to hit the Moon near Einstein crater on August 5.

The stage has remained in a lopsided Earth orbit since a January 2025 launch and is predicted to strike at hypersonic speed.

The impact could carve a small lunar crater and may offer only limited scientific data.

The case underscores the growing challenge of disposing of leftover rocket hardware in space.
