aIR-Jumper: Exfiltrating Data from Air-Gap Networks via IR Cameras

Researchers from Ben-Gurion University presented aIR-Jumper at USENIX WOOT 2017.

The technique uses CCTV infrared LEDs to exfiltrate data from an air-gap network.

In some cases, it can also send commands back into the isolated network, creating a covert two-way channel.

The study shows that physical isolation does not guarantee absolute security and that seemingly harmless hardware can become a dangerous leak path.
