Sony halts memory card shipments due to NAND shortage

Sony has temporarily stopped taking orders for CFexpress Type A, CFexpress Type B, and SDXC/SDHC memory cards.

The halt is caused by a shortage of TLC 3D NAND, which Sony cannot procure for these cards.

NAND makers are prioritizing enterprise SSD demand from AI data centers, shrinking supply for consumer products.

Sony has not set a date to resume orders and recovery of consumer NAND supply is not expected until late 2027 or 2028.
