The U.S. opened the door for Nvidia’s H200 chip in China. The Chinese military has been waiting on the other side for some time

The U.S. has allowed Nvidia to sell its H200 AI chip to approved Chinese customers, including major tech firms and distributors such as Lenovo and Foxconn.

Soon after, reports said at least seven Chinese universities linked to defense and the military are trying to obtain the chip.

Some are using remote server rentals to bypass import restrictions and gain access indirectly.

The development could strengthen China’s AI capabilities, including entities tied to the military, and complicate U.S. export controls.
