ChatGPT isn't getting spicier – OpenAI puts adult mode on indefinite hold

OpenAI confirmed it has put ChatGPT's planned adult mode on indefinite hold as it refocuses on other products.

Sam Altman had announced an adult mode for verified adults in October 2025 and expected it in Q1 2026.

The company recently scrapped the Sora app and ended a $1 billion partnership with Walt Disney as part of a pivot toward enterprise offerings.

OpenAI plans to roughly double its workforce to about 8,000 and is reportedly building a desktop superapp combining ChatGPT, Atlas, and Codex.
