Microsoft is working on a fix for downgraded GPU drivers in Windows Update — new system uses multiple IDs

Microsoft says it will partially fix a long-running Windows 11 bug where Windows Update can downgrade newer GPU drivers to older ones.

The fix will use more device identifiers to better target which drivers are offered, with a limited rollout planned for April 2026.

Broader deployment is expected by Q4 2026, but the change mainly affects new display drivers and will not solve every case.

Older catalog entries may still be force-installed on some existing systems, so the problem may only be reduced, not fully eliminated.
