Report says OpenAI is developing an AI-powered smartphone to rival the iPhone

OpenAI is reportedly developing an AI smartphone aimed at competing with the iPhone, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The company is said to be working with MediaTek, Qualcomm, and Luxshare on the device, with mass production targeted around 2028.

OpenAI is also advancing a non-phone AI device with Jony Ive, while CEO Sam Altman has pointed to a redesigned OS and UI.

If successful, the project could reshape how AI agents interact with hardware and change the smartphone developer ecosystem.
