U.S. Senate gives Apple ultimatum: "Promise not to use Chinese memory"

Bipartisan U.S. senators are pressing Apple to pledge by Aug. 21 that it will not use chips from Chinese memory makers CXMT and YMTC.

The push comes as Apple has been exploring broader Chinese sourcing to ease memory shortages, while lawmakers warn of national security and industry risks.

A previous Apple plan involving YMTC also collapsed after congressional backlash, reviving debate over supply-chain exposure to China.

Apple’s response could influence other global companies’ sourcing decisions and investment in the U.S. memory-chip industry.
