Websites launched after ChatGPT: 35% may be AI-generated? Stanford University and others investigate the spread of “unnaturally cheerful prose” : Innovative Tech

A Stanford-led study estimates that about 35% of websites published from Aug. 2022 to May 2025 were AI-generated or AI-assisted.

The researchers found no clear web-wide decline in factual accuracy, but did see much higher content similarity and a stronger positive, bland tone.

The findings suggest AI is reshaping online writing at scale by making the web more uniform and less authentic, not just by spreading obvious falsehoods.
