California just gave police a way to ticket Waymo and other robotaxis

California approved new autonomous-vehicle rules effective July 1, allowing police to cite the operating company for driverless-vehicle violations.

The DMV can issue noncompliance notices and, if problems are not fixed, restrict or suspend AV permits.

The framework adds tougher requirements for testing, emergency response, remote operations, and incident reporting across autonomous fleets.

The changes close a legal enforcement gap and give regulators more leverage to penalize unsafe robotaxi operators.
