Sakura Cloud begins trial use of three domestically developed large language models, with Japan’s Digital Agency evaluating them for government AI “Gennai”

Japan’s Digital Agency will trial three domestically developed LLMs on Sakura Cloud for its government AI system Gennai.

The agency will use A/B tests in Gennai’s chat interface to compare user preferences and response quality.

The models under evaluation are tsuzumi 2, Takane 32B, and PLaMo 2.0 Prime, against systems already in use.

The trial is meant to identify the best models for administrative efficiency and public-service support while advancing Japan’s government AI platform.
