Microsoft Teams Has Become a Haven for Scammers in China

Scammers in China are impersonating recruiters, buyers, landlords, and romantic contacts on Microsoft Teams, Webex, and Zoho Cliq.

They lure targets into private chats using controlled workplace accounts, then can remove access and erase evidence.

Zoho suspended suspected accounts and disabled Cliq payments in China, while Microsoft added a scam warning after a reported loss.

The abuse highlights how trusted workplace tools and features like screen sharing and remote control can increase victims’ exposure.
