SpaceX files for $55 billion semiconductor fab in rural Texas for Musk's Terafab — total chipmaking fab investment could reach $119 billion

SpaceX has filed for property tax abatements in Grimes County, Texas, for a semiconductor campus at the former Gibbons Creek Reservoir site.

The application outlines an initial $55 billion build, with a possible full expansion reaching $119 billion.

This is the first formal step toward site approval for Elon Musk’s Terafab plans.

If completed, the project could become one of the largest semiconductor investments ever proposed and expand U.S. chipmaking capacity.
