Shipping container-launched cargo rocket promises 550-pound deliveries 750 km away in 15 minutes — $1.25M Air Force contract backs 'Rook' cargo rocket that flies into space to speed deliveries

Y Combinator startup Hop Aero has unveiled Rook, an autonomous cargo rocket designed to launch from a standard 40-foot shipping container.

The company says Rook could carry up to 550 pounds about 750 km in roughly 15 minutes and land without runway infrastructure.

So far, Hop Aero has only tested a tethered prototype and has not flown the system yet.

Hop Aero also has a $1.25 million Air Force contract, which is set to expire in October.

If it works, the concept could reshape military and emergency logistics, but it remains unproven and far from operational.
