Hoax post claiming the world's oldest tortoise had died was a crypto scam

A fake X post claimed the world's oldest tortoise Jonathan had died and asked for cryptocurrency donations.

Major outlets reported the post, which received about 2 million views, before checks found it was a hoax.

Joe Hollins and Saint Helena's governor confirmed Jonathan is alive and the post was not from Hollins.
