New WhatsApp Spyware Attack—iPhone Users Advised To Uninstall App

WhatsApp confirmed a fake iOS app targeted a small number of iPhone users in a social engineering campaign.

Affected users, mainly in Italy, were warned, logged out, and told to uninstall the malicious app and reinstall the official WhatsApp.

About 200 iPhone users were reportedly impacted and attackers used a modified client presented as an update.

Meta said the incident was not a WhatsApp vulnerability and official apps remain protected by end-to-end encryption.
