Huawei reveals its own replacement for Moore’s Law as it aims straight at 1.4nm chips

Huawei unveiled a new chip roadmap at an IEEE conference in Shanghai, saying its Tau Scaling Law can help push future designs toward 1.4nm-equivalent density.

The approach is meant to counter limits of Moore’s Law by improving architecture and system efficiency rather than relying only on advanced fabrication.

Huawei said the method will first show up in upcoming Kirin chips in 2026, then in Ascend AI chips and data-center systems.

The strategy underscores Huawei’s effort to work around U.S. export controls as China still lacks leading-edge chipmaking capacity.
