Florida plans to build air taxi pads using $200M intended for EV chargers

Florida plans to redirect nearly $200 million in federal NEVI EV-charger funds to build 32 landing pads for electric air taxis.

The pads would include charging stations and be placed at sites like golf courses, apartment buildings, and airports.

The move raises questions about repurposing transportation infrastructure dollars and whether eVTOLs can meaningfully ease congestion.

The decision comes after Florida did not spend the EV charging money it was awarded under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
