Google Maps uses Gemini to suggest captions for photos and videos

Google Maps now uses Gemini-based AI to suggest caption drafts for uploaded photos and videos.

The feature is currently available in English on iOS in the U.S. and will expand to other regions and Android in coming months.

Uploading is simplified: granting media access shows recent photos and videos in the contributions tab for quick posting.

Maps also added global photo/video recommendation rollout and stronger contributor performance displays, including cumulative points and highlighted Local Guide levels.

Google said over 500 million contributors supply photos, reviews, and videos to Maps to help keep information up to date.
